What Can I Expect with My Traffic Case in Fluvanna?

Jan. 10, 2018

If you're charged with speeding or reckless driving in Fluvanna, your case will probably be heard by Judge Durrer. Judge Durrer has his own unique way of handling traffic cases.

Should I Hire an Attorney for My Traffic Case in Fluvanna?

You should at least consider hiring an attorney if you want to have the ticket reduced or dismissed, especially if your record is not good. At the very least an attorney can let you know whether it will be worth your while to even show up to court. If you have a speeding ticket, however, it probably doesn't make sense to hire an attorney because there is almost certainly nothing that can be done, other than a reduction in the ticket.

Do I Have to Show up To Court for My Traffic Case?

Probably not. The only reason you would need to show up to court is if your reckless driving ticket was more than thirty miles per hours over the speed limit or over 90 miles per hour. In some cases involved a car accident you may also need to appear in court. In many cases, hiring an attorney can make your appearance in court unnecessary.

Speeding Tickets

For speeding tickets, Judge Durrer will reduce the ticket so that it is fewer points against you license. He will not dismiss the ticket completely, however. So if you are charged with speeding 75/60, Judge Durrer will probably reduce the ticket to speeding 69/60. That means you'll get three points on your license, rather than four points. If you have a terrible driving record, however, Judge Durrer will probably not reduce your ticket.

Reckless Driving

If you're charged with reckless driving by speed, depending on how fast you were going, Judge Durrer may reduce the ticket to simple speeding. He will look at your driving record, and if your record is bad, he is unlikely to reduce the ticket.

Driving Improvement Courses

Judge Durrer does no consider driving improvement courses. If you complete a driving improvement course before court, it will not make a difference to Judge Durrer. When you are in front of Judge Durrer, if you offer to complete a driving course, he will tell you that he does not give credit for driving courses.
