Firearm offenses are among the most serious offenses to be charged with. Prosecutors and judges view firearm offenses as especially dangerous and worthy of attention. If you're charged with a firearm offense, it will be harder to get bond and it will be harder to negotiate a favorable plea agreement.
One more important thing to note about firearm and weapon offenses: they often carry mandatory minimum sentences. For example, if you're convicted of possessing a gun while in possession of a schedule 1 or 2 controlled substance, even if it's your first offense, you will have to serve two years in prison. None of that time can be suspended.
